Daphne de Beauvoir: “Well, sometimes my husband has ...” pause... “other interests.” Detective Allan Redmond: Clears his throat “Other interests?”
Daphne de Beauvoir: “Why yes. Blondes, brunettes and redheads. Take your pick detective. ”
Jack Walsh: “And these interests keep him away from home?”
Daphne de Beauvoir: [Has lit a cigarette and blows smoke. Use wooden match strike] “Frequently. I only became concerned when he missed his club’s annual dinner last night. Keeping up appearances is very important to Howard. ”
Detective Allan Redmond: “Do you have a physical description ma’am?”
Daphne: “Why yes I do, detective. And he has one two. You’ll find his photograph and documents in these papers.” [shuffling papers]
Jack Walsh: “We’ll look into it. Let me escort you home ma’am.” Daphne: “Thank you. I always appreciate a lift.”
In the car. [Background automobile noise.]
Daphne: “This is very kind of you Detective.”
Jack Voiceover: [theme music soundtrack with car sounds continuing]
“Yeah I drove her home. She lived in a swanky joint up on Russian Hill. Marble fountains, curved gates, lotsa money. You could just see it oozing out of everything. I dropped her off and tried not to feel like I was a chauffeur.”
[Sound of a car pulling up.]
Daphne: “Detective, do come in for a drink. The house feels like a mausoleum when I am all alone. “
[car doors closing] [footsteps walking up to house, steps into house & opening door] Jack Walsh: “With a joint like this? Don’t you have a house full of servants?”
Daphne de Beauvoir: ”Well, ... I gave them the day off.”
Jack Voiceover: [theme music soundtrack]
“So I went in. She was beautiful, there was free booze and I wanted a look around. The entry was grander than the Taj Mahal. But there was something off, and I knew off. I shot her a warning look and told her to stay put.
