TT: He was a nasty piece of business, Christina, and he got what he deserved! In the court they said I was Not Guilty! The video evidence that my lawyer showed made it clear that the man was kicking me down the stairs! I even got a settlement, although they hushed that part up in the papers.
When I was thinking about femmes fatales in all this noir stuff, though, I remembered what French philosopher Simone de Beauvoir said about how there are myths about what women are like. And isn’t it funny that you are currently playing a woman named Daphne de Beauvoir in a radio play?
TT: That is not just a coincidence, Christina! I had the script changed so that my character’s name would be de Beauvoir, just like the name of the Simon man! It took them a bit of convincing, but in the end it was good because I didn't really have to use my contract to make it happen. True Friends are always understanding, and they know when you mean business!
C: Um, Tina, I wanted to see what you think of Simone de Beauvoir’s view. In The Second Sex, published in 1949, she talked about the “myth of the eternal feminine,” by which I think she meant the sorts of images of women that were prominent in the social and cultural artifacts she was familiar with.
TT: Who is the she? And why does Simon use a girl's name? But I think it is good that the she talked about social and cultural Art! Because you should make art every day! That is a DS106 thing! #4life!
C: Um, Tina, Simone is the she. Simone de Beauvoir. Simone, not Simon. TT: (long pause) .......... I knew that. (longer pause) You were saying?
C: What’s especially interesting to me is how these myths include opposing views of women: they are symbols of ...
life and death--associated with birth and the creation of new life, but also with death because life inevitably leads to death, and also b/c associated with the body which is subject to decay and death
“she is the chaos whence all have come and whither all must one day return”
“From the day of his birth man begins to die: this is the truth incarnated in the Mother”
TT: Well, about that decay part, I think I'm looking pretty good these days! I know they didn't break the mold when they made me, because you can find quality reproductions of me on Amazon, but there is only one @iamTalkyTina! And about that “from the day of his birth, man begins to die,” part -- I think that they should see the glass half full side of things, and see that from the day of his birth, they begin to live! C: (continues....) Simone also says that
women are associated with nature, to which many have an ambiguous relationship
