Page 12 - Noir106 Femme Fatale
P. 12
Beauvoir says that for men, woman “incarnates the Dream ...: what he does not wish and does not do, toward which he aspires and which cannot be attained.”
TT: Well, I don’t know if a lot of fatal femmes drive pickup trucks. I think they usually have a chauffeur. I think we like to have the man drive us around like we’re the boss.
C: That sounds good to me! So I was thinking about all this in terms of the Noir works we’ve been watching/reading/listening to. Are there images of women as innocent and evil, pure and tempting seductresses? Or are there mostly just femmes fatales?
TT: Well, Christina, I think that just like Jessica rabbit says, "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn this way!" It has to do with that kind of stories, the noir ones, and the way that they were written. Things were different then when noir was invented, because of wars and spies, and fighting, and trying to trick other peoples so you could win.
C: So are you saying that the femme fatale was a type that showed the power of women in a time when men were having to act in a violent and aggressive manner?
TT: Today, I think peoples know that it is important to write their own story! It is important that people do not use stereotypes or clichés by accident or laziness when they make their own story! If life is all about art, then people need to use original art in their own life! Don't be a stereotype! Don't let other people write your story! Be your own person! Make art every day, and share it with your true friends! Plus, Creative Commons!
C: Wow, Tina, I don’t think I could have said it any better than that. And I’m pretty sure Simone de Beauvoir would agree.
TT: Well, Christina, it is always a nice time with you on a beach, wherever it is! We should get together more often and talk about stuff and ds106 and Friends! Until next time, let's say goodbye to our Friends on the radio!
C and TT (together): OK, everybody! Thanks for listening! Now go out and make some Art, Bub! DS106! #4LIFE!
TT: ... And Friends!
