For me it\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rockylouproductions.com\/blog_wp\/2013\/12\/05\/gac-launch-t-8\/\">provided an opportunity to showcase the work done by all of us<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/storify.com\/mdvfunes\/ds106-headless-best\">Mariana captured what she could in her Storify Collection<\/a>. \u00a0And this whirlwind adventure culminated my own intense 6 month learning curve in digital storytelling on the web. In less than two weeks my part in our final project had me practicing and honing my skills with everything I&#8217;d learned &#8211; and then some. Fortunately, I had a week&#8217;s vacation that I needed to use or lose. \u00a0I used it!<\/p>\n<p>A few examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Creating a new website subdomain (<a href=\"http:\/\/gifachrome.com\">Gifachrome.com<\/a>) \u00a0that is still technically hosted within my rockylouproductions.com domain<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/goggles.webmaker.org\/\">x-ray goggles<\/a>\u00a0 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/gifachrome.com\/2013\/12\/12\/gac-wikip-amazon\/\">mocking up a Wikipedia and Amazon product page<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The differences between embedding a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gifachrome.com\/2013\/12\/07\/collabogiffing-at-giffi-us\/\">Storify Collection<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gifachrome.com\/behind-the-curtain\/gac-unfolding\/\">Storify Slideshow<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/gifachrome.com\/2013\/12\/13\/giftbox-excitement\/\">Adding audio to a GIF<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/johnjohnston.info\/106\/tina-sounds\/\">Thx to John Johnston<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Layer masking with Photoshop<\/li>\n<li>Effectively using\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/about.twitter.com\/products\/tweetdeck\">TweetDeck<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/appear.in\/\">appear.in<\/a>\u00a0(video conversations for up to 8 people for free, no log-in , no installs)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/rochellelockrid\/gifachrome\/\">Pinterest<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Paper.li<\/li>\n<li>How to modify a php file to create a page of the <a href=\"http:\/\/rockylouproductions.com\/blog_wp\/blog\/recent-100\/\">last 100 posts &amp; pages<\/a> to my website. (<a href=\"http:\/\/cogdogblog.com\/2013\/08\/25\/page-for-last-100-posts\/\">Thx to Alan Levine.<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been trying to finish and post my wrap-up comments for the\u00a0course for over two months now, without success. \u00a0If it ever gets done it&#8217;s entitled &#8216;GIFaChrome &#8211; A DS106 Practicum&#8217;. \u00a0This &#8220;abstract&#8221; of that post is really being written so that I can publish my fun little animated GIF at the top of this post,\u00a0<strong>DS106 Headless &#8217;13 &#8211; The End<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Making the GIF:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Using Photoshop CS5 I used the selection tool to copy and cut out the DS106 foam letters, which were individually placed into seperate layers. \u00a0I then used the clone, band-aid, and blur tools to cover up the holes left behind and make the back one continuous layer. \u00a0The additional text, <em>Headless &#8217;13<\/em> and <em>The End<\/em>, used the Stencil font which I&#8217;ve found is pretty close to the font used on the DS106 site. \u00a0With the animation feature in the full version of Photoshop it was easy to add the letters and text without the need to merge layers. \u00a0This allowed me to play around with a couple of different scenarios before I settled on the version posted above. \u00a0The final touch was to add drop shadow layering effects to the letters and text. \u00a0Increasing the distance for the text lines made them stand out even more- giving the GIF a bit of a 3D look.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Without an instructor how would we know when to stop?
